Could you ever love a robot? A computer? Would it ever be ‘normal‘ to love a robot baby? A robot human? Would human/robot human relationships be wrought with stigma? If it is considered unnatural, why?

If you could upgrade parts of a robot, would it be the same robot? If you assembled all the old parts would you have two robots the same? How many parts would you have to change before it became a new robot?

Dinosaurs Eat James Cameron’s Avatar

August 13, 2009

What sounds better, blue aliens or massive dinosaurs? Easy, dinosaurs. So instead of Avatar (which I’m sure will be good… I mean, so much hype, it has to be…surely…) why not reboot the Jurassic Park franchise with a massive sterioscopic 3D dino rampage? Apart from a new Tron film, I cannot think of any better use of this amazing earth shattering new technology  – assuming it is as amazing as some random people on the internet say.

FileAvatar-Teaser-PosterOkay, I still want to see this but I also want to see what a 20-foot tall tyrannosaurus rex looks like running straight at me.

Under the Iron Sky

IRON SKY

Lyrics: Joonas Naskali

Now that you have gone away,
I feel so cold, why did I stay?
Remember, I’ll remember your face so pale,
when you left me on that gloomy day…

Time goes by, memories are mine,
Still waiting for the moment I’ll see you again.
Times are changing, memories are fading,
I’m waiting for another chance,
to tell you belong to me.

One day,
I know we’ll meet again…
Under the Iron Sky.

Towards the end of World War II the staff of SS officer Hans Kammler made a significant breakthrough in anti-gravity.

From a secret base built in the Antarctic, the first Nazi spaceships were launched in late ‘45 to found the military base Schwarze Sonne (Black Sun) on the dark side of the Moon.

Iron Sky is a science fiction comedy being produced by Energia Productions, Blind Spot Pictures and Cinet and co-produced by 27 Films. At the moment, the team is finalizing the script, working to gather a top-notch production team, and are looking for second-round financing.

The makers of Iron Sky seem to be off to an excellent start with a teaser that is sinister and, dare I say it, powerful. It’s a Finnish feature length dark comedy from the creators of Star Wreck. The estimated time of release is 2011.

My Moon

August 11, 2009

The Sun happens to be 400 times the Moon’s diameter, and 400 times as far away. That coincidence means the Sun and Moon appear to be the same size when viewed from Earth. A total solar eclipse, in which the Moon is between the Earth and Sun, blocks the bright light from the Sun’s photosphere, allowing us to see the faint glow from the corona, the Sun’s outer atmosphere.

Dune

August 10, 2009

This is partly an excuse to post my favourite picture of animal cruelty. Peter Breg has been taking about the coming Dune film.

Berg sees the story more as an epic adventure. “[The book] was much more muscular and adventurous, more violent and possibly even a little bit more fun,” Berg said. “I think those are all elements of my experience of the book that can be brought in without offending the die-hard fans of the Bene Gesserit and Kwisatz Haderach. There’s a more dynamic film to be made.”

Sounds promising although I can’t see this ending too well without it becoming two films or maybe a Lord of the Rings style trilogy. As for what David Lynch did with Dune, it was never really Dune.

God created Arrakis to train the faithful.

Krakatau on Sunday

When there is this total emptiness, when there is absolutely and literally nothing, no influence, no value, no frontier, no word, then in that complete stillness of time and space, there is that which is unnameable.

It’s just a game…

TronFixedGear

The Pulse, a concept fixed-gear with electric turn signals and a luminescent frame. A bike Flynn would be proud of although I suspect he might be shocked by the turning circle.
