Sébastien Tellier at the Empire

January 25, 2009

The night finally came and it amazingly went. We arrived early, serendipitously all bumping into each other in an instant on the tube, and were treated to some excellent support acts. It would be nice to know who the support acts were but since the only place they were listed was in biro on one of the posters near the front door, that isn’t going to be easy. As you can see from the photo below I was in a prime position

Like I said, it was a good night…

First on was an amazing little lady from Belgium, I think that’s what she said, who had one massive voice. Sweet and epic. Quite a combination. I’ll snoop around see if I can find out more.

Next up was Nick Mulvey who seemed familiar. It took about a minute to click that he was part of Portico Quartet who hail from our very own London town, I’d seen only a couple months back. I’ve heard this man make what looked like a box sound like incredible and sugar so it was no surprise that his ability with a guitar was hypnotic.

Finally the French man hit the stage. I’m pretty sure he was on a whole alphabet but that didn’t stop him from being the event I expected him to be. It’s hard not to undertand Sébastien Tellier is a sex crazed beast from his album Sexuality but he really does go for it on stage. Whether he’s feeling the microphone with his tongue or shoving his hand down his pants he was definitely enjoying himself.

If you can see the man live, do it. You probably haven’t seen anything quite like it.

One final thing, whoever the guy with those awesome red glasses on his head standing next to me, right at the front, where did you get them from?

Keeping with the Séb Tellier theme, here is a great funk take on Kilometer.

Also disturbing people’s bus journeys these past couple days has been Damn Arms with their two part Destination. I’m leaning towards the more chilled Part II.
